Food Now is dedicated to offering nourishing and wholesome food options to disadvantaged individuals residing in Desert Hot Springs, ensuring they no longer endure hunger pangs.
The Food Now Children's Backpack Feeding Program collaborates with FSOD and the Palm Springs Unified School District to extend vital nutritional assistance to specific, persistently hungry children over the weekends, ensuring they receive additional nourishment.
Food Now provides essential home deliveries of supplemental food to disabled veterans and individuals who are medically unable to leave their homes. This service ensures that these vulnerable individuals receive the necessary sustenance they need to maintain their health and well-being.
On a daily basis, we distribute specially prepared ready-to-eat food packages that require no heating or refrigeration. These packages ensure that our homeless clients have access to nourishing meals, regardless of their circumstances. Additionally, we distribute personal hygiene items on a monthly basis, recognizing the importance of maintaining personal well-being and dignity.
Through periodic health screenings, Food Now identifies existing or pre-existing diseases and health risks, with a focus on conditions like obesity and diabetes. We offer counseling and guidance to at-risk clients, emphasizing the importance of healthy choices and enabling early detection of health risks. This empowers our clients to make informed decisions and improve their overall well-being.
At Food Now, we prioritize nutrition and adhere to the dietary recommendations set forth by the USDA. We understand that maintaining a healthy diet is a personal journey influenced by various factors such as life stage, circumstances, preferences, food accessibility, culture, traditions, and the choices we make over time.
Food Now offers a valuable Weekly Outreach program that connects clients with a community benefits coordinator. This coordinator assists clients in understanding and enrolling in a range of available benefits, including Edison's CARE Program, WIC, SNAP, Affordable Health Care, and Cover California. While our weekly outreach sessions are currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we look forward to resuming this important service as soon as it is safe to do so.
Food Now understands the unique challenges faced by our senior clients who rely on food assistance. Living on a fixed income and often in poverty, these individuals struggle to afford not only sufficient food but also essential non-food items. In order to address this need, we conducted a survey among our senior clients to identify the most crucial but difficult-to-obtain non-food items.
At Food Now, we are dedicated to providing a well-balanced and wholesome diet to those in need. Each month, our distribution efforts include a variety of nutritious food items.
We distribute approximately 7,000 lbs of fresh fruit, ensuring access to essential vitamins and minerals. Additionally, we offer a wide range of fresh vegetables, including avocados, artichokes, bell peppers and many others, promoting a diverse and nutritious diet.
Food Now understands the significant role pets play in the lives of our clients, offering companionship and support. In response to the needs of our pet-owning clients, we are proud to provide a Pet Food Program as part of our services. Recognizing the importance of this service, we offer pet food to ensure that our clients' beloved companions receive the nourishment they need. By supporting both our clients and their pets, we strive to foster strong bonds and enhance overall well-being.
